To My Country
This piece tells the story of my journey back to Country. It is from the time when I was a child, mostly travelling back in spring and summer at night after my parents worked, seeing the Country illuminated through the lights beaming from the front of the car. It was such a magical time as a kid and the landscape was much fuller and denser than it is travelling back there now. Following rivers, bending around mountains and travelling under the guidance of my Ancestors to my Grandmother’s Country to Aunty June’s house. Aunty June, my Grandmother’s sister, is a huge inspiration for me and the work I do both in my arts and working in the community as an IEO. Aunties’ home feels like home.
