Skylore - The Rainbow Serpent Drone Show

Skylore - The Rainbow Serpent Drone Show

Brisbane Festival recently treated us to a spectacular drone show, Skylore - The Rainbow Serpent, which was truly a sight to behold. This innovative display, courtesy of Nova Sky Stories, brought together technology and traditional storytelling in a remarkable way.

Imagine 400 drones moving in perfect synchronisation across the night sky, illustrating the creation story of the Brisbane River.

The Rainbow Serpent is a significant figure in many Aboriginal cultures across Australia. This powerful Dreamtime being is often associated with water, life, and the formation of important landmarks. In the Brisbane/Meanjin area, the Rainbow Serpent is linked to the creation of the Brisbane River, shaping the landscape that we know today.

One of the highlights was the narration by Shannon Ruska, a local Traditional Owner, Managing Director of Tribal Experiences, and long-time friend of BW Tribal. His storytelling breathed life into the Rainbow Serpent tale as the drones performed their aerial dance.

The show's visual elements were perfectly complemented by an original composition from composer and producer, Guy Webster. This combination of lights, narrative, and music created an immersive experience that captivated audiences of all ages.

Perhaps the most appealing aspect was its broad appeal. Children were mesmerised by the dazzling light display, while adults appreciated the cultural significance. As a free event, it offered an excellent opportunity for families to enjoy a night out together.

So, did you make it to Skylore? What did you reckon?
