Deep Roots, Bright Future

"This artwork reflects the 2025 NAIDOC theme – The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy, honouring the resilience of our people, the strength of our culture, and the path forward.  At the centre stands a beautiful tree with fifty branches symbolising 50 years of NAIDOC. Its deep roots connect to Country, ancestors, and cultural knowledge, grounding future generations in strength.  Behind the tree, hills represent ancient culture, a solid foundation, and the unbreakable bond with the land. Moving towards the tree, people of all ages hold hands, symbolising unity and the passing of knowledge. One person carries a torch, lighting the way forward and representing leadership, wisdom, and the responsibility of guiding future generations.  Above them, stars fill the sky, representing our ancestors watching over and guiding the journey ahead. The vibrant colours of pinks, purples, yellows, greens, and blues reflect hope, strength, and the enduring legacy of our people.  This piece is a tribute to where we’ve been, where we are, and where we’re going-strong, united, and led by the next generation carrying the torch forward."

Bobbi Lockyer

Bobbi Lockyer is a celebrated multidisciplinary artist and a mother to four incredible boys. A proud Ngarluma, Kariyarra, Nyulnyul, and Yawuru woman, Bobbi's connection to her Country and community is profound, and she channels this bond through her extensive art, fashion design, and photography portfolios.

Born and nurtured on Kariyarra Country in Port Hedland, her art is a love letter to her community, a dream of a better world, and a celebration of her homeland. The iconic landscapes and brilliant colours of the Pilbara region are her muses, inspiring her daily.

The first thing you notice about Bobbi’s artwork is the way she harnesses colour. There's a kaleidoscopic, psychedelic rainbow in almost every piece! Her work is not just a visual feast but a medium to voice social justice issues, particularly Indigenous and women's rights. Bobbi’s commitment to her community and her craft earned her the title of NAIDOC Artist of the Year in 2021.
