Artist Spotlight: Meet Krubi Creative

Krubi Creative is far more than just an art studio. It's a reflection of culture, tradition, and the profound bond shared by three Gundungurra sisters. As one of the newest collaborators to join BW Tribal, the story and artistic journey behind Krubi Creative offer a fresh and meaningful perspective to our evolving showcase of Indigenous talent.

The name 'Krubi Creative' itself carries deep symbolism, drawing from Gundungurra stories where "Krubi" represents extraordinary beauty, often linked to the Waratah dreaming. Historically, it was a name given to the most beautiful woman of the tribe, signifying her uniqueness and honour. This sense of beauty and strength shines through in the works of Sharon, Clara, and Emily—the talented trio behind Krubi Creative.

As descendants of the Bidgywan people from the Burra Burra and Burragorang clan groups, the sisters' heritage is integral to their art. Their collective work is steeped in nature symbolism, paying homage to the land, rivers, and skies that have nurtured the Gundungurra Nation for generations. Through their art, the sisters bring ancient stories to life, many of which revolve around the rivers and mountains that have sustained their people for millennia.

What sets Krubi Creative apart is not just the visual appeal of their pieces, but the depth and intention behind every element. From arches representing spirits frozen in time to intricate line work and dots echoing ancient songlines, each design speaks to a larger narrative of Indigenous connection to the land. The sisters skillfully blend contemporary styles with traditional techniques, creating pieces that both captivate and educate viewers about the significance of nature, culture, and healing in the Gundungurra community.

Krubi Creative is truly a family affair. Each sister brings her unique touch, and they attribute their names to significant women in their lineage. This practice of being "namesakes" is a common cultural tradition, deeply ingrained in their Indigenous roots.

For Krubi Creative, art is a form of cultural preservation, a means to honour and celebrate their heritage while sharing it with a broader audience. Their work goes beyond aesthetics, focusing on the stories that weave through their designs and preserving the spiritual and cultural narratives of their people.

As we welcome Krubi Creative to our platform, we're not just introducing another collection of artworks. We're sharing a piece of a legacy, deeply embedded in the land, waters, and traditions of the Gundungurra Nation. Through this collaboration, we invite you to explore the vibrant and meaningful world of Krubi Creative—where every brushstroke tells a story, and every piece of art celebrates their deep connection to their heritage.
